therapy for children, adolescents, and young adults in North Carolina

Services

Individual Therapy

Office, virtual, and walk-and-talk therapy sessions are offered. During our first sessions together, we explore your concerns, experiences, and values. We collaboratively set goals for therapy and regularly check in about your progress.

My strengths-based, person-centered approach is derived primarily from:

  • narrative therapy,

  • cognitive-behavioral therapy,

  • family systems therapy, and

  • play therapy.

As the therapist, I offer encouragement, strategies, support, validation, and perspective. As the client, you are the expert of your own life.

Family and parent sessions are incorporated when relevant to the client’s goals.

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina (#14193). I hold a Master of Education & Educational Specialist (MEdS) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Clemson University (2018) and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Family and Child Sciences from Florida State University (2015).

Nature and Movement Therapy

Humans are not just part of nature, we are nature. Integrating nature-based therapy, play, and movement practices, such as yoga and mindfulness, may:

  • calm the nervous system,

  • reduce anxiety and depression,

  • improve mood,

  • reduce trauma symptoms,

  • improve attention, and

  • increase emotional awareness.

During nature and movement sessions, we may meet outdoors to hike, sit by the river, practice yoga and mindfulness, or reflect and connect with our surroundings. We will intentionally spend time being, not doing.

Nature and movement sessions are appropriate for all bodies and fitness levels.

I have advanced training in Ecotherapy and 15+ years of outdoor leadership experience. I hold a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification and am a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) trained in Subtle Yoga.

Summer Camp Support

Motions Counseling offers various support to summer camp programs, including:

  • developing and presenting mental, emotional, and social health staff training content,

  • providing mental health consulting to camp leadership, and

  • providing in-person and virtual counseling services for summer camp counselors.

I have 20 years of experience in the summer camp industry, including attending as a camper, working as a summer counselor, and serving as year-round leadership.
